Glossy vs Luster Prints

Both glossy and luster (or lustre) paper are the same Fuji photo paper, just with a different sheen on the surface. Glossy is shiny, luster is mostly flat with a very slight texture. Glossy is pretty much totally smooth.

So an image printed on either one will look about the same technically, though some people think the image looks sharper on glossy paper - this is technically not true but the gloss finish can make it look more clear.

Glossy paper will pick up finger prints quite easily - you can usually buff them out with a clean cloth.

Volume Printing

If you have a large volume of prints that you need (more than 2000) you probably should choose luster over glossy. We stock much more luster paper than glossy, and we have more equipment dedicated to luster paper than we do glossy so turnaround times will be faster on larger orders for luster prints than for glossy.

Our Preference

We prefer the luster finish over glossy, it looks a little cleaner we think, and the finger prints on glossy paper can be a problem.
